Fall Plowing is an oil painting created in 1931 by Grant Wood. It was first displayed at the Des Moines Art Center before being purchased by Eldon P. Dunbar. Purchased in 1970 by the University of Iowa Museum of Art, this painting depicts an idyllic scene of an autumn day on a farm that is owned and tended by the artist’s sister and her husband in rural Iowa. Wood used his real life friends and other citizens of his small town to model for his paintings, as exemplified in Fall Plowing with Wayne McMillan as the model for the farmer. This painting is currently on display at the Figge Art Museum in Davenport, Iowa.
