The School of Athens

$37.50$436.00

The School of Athens, painted by Raphael in the early 16th century, is the most famous fresco of the Italian Renaissance. It depicts philosophy, science and theology from all eras at a time when humanists were depicting classical antiquity as the noblest pursuit possible for a man.

The work covers an entire wall of the Stanza della Segnatura in the Apostolic palace in Vatican City and is believed to have taken at least four years to complete. Although it focuses primarily on philosophy and theology, there are notable philosophers and scientists featured including Socrates and Euclid.
